Freedom and What It Means To You
July 4th is a time to celebrate our independence with fireworks and the grills heating up everywhere. It is also a time to reflect on what freedom means.
The word freedom is defined by Merriam-Webster as “the quality or state of being free.” The listing goes even further to list “the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.” But in talking to people today, you will find that each have their own definition of freedom.
As a wife of a veteran, I know that freedom isn’t free. Our military members are fighting the ongoing battle to keep our country free and providing the security we all enjoy every day. However, that freedom comes at a high price. Many have given their lives in order to protect ours.
As a small business owner, I enjoy the freedom of being my own boss. I have the opportunity to work on unique projects with some really awesome people. I have the freedom to shift my hours around to spend quality time with my family. Yet again, there is a price associated with that freedom. Those hours spent with family, mean late nights and a lot of hard work. The income isn’t constant and neither are the clients. However, I chose to make these sacrifices in order to have the freedom I’m enjoying.
Through everything, I love being able to serve others; to help people to connect, grow, and build relationships.
So now I’ll pose the question….what does freedom mean to you? Post your thoughts in the comments section below.
Happy 4th of July!
